Some love the bold, expressive grain patterns of mango or acacia wood. Others prefer a calmer, more uniform look. At Om Home & Garden, we believe that the finish of a wooden surface is not just an afterthought—it’s a design decision that defines the entire character of a piece.

Our approach to wood finishing blends craftsmanship, aesthetic sensibility, and deep material knowledge. Whether handcrafted from mango, acacia, or reclaimed wood, every piece is evaluated and treated with the same attention to detail.

Mango & Acacia: Wood That Tells a Story

Mango and acacia are among our most beloved woods. We work with wooden panels crafted from solid boards—carefully carved, joined, and finished by hand. It’s only after the protective finish is applied that the true character of the wood grain reveals itself. What looks subtle in its raw form may become surprisingly expressive after treatment.

That’s why every piece is assessed individually. Will a cabinet with a particularly dramatic grain find the right customer? If not, we adjust the finish—softening the look through techniques like white-washing carved details or evening out contrasts.

Our Signature Wood Finishes

We use different finishes to highlight or balance the natural grain, deepen color tones, or create specific stylistic effects:

  • Honey Mango – A soft, golden warmth ideal for woods with lighter grain variation.

  • Teak Finish – Rich and dark, it smooths out unevenness and adds elegance.

  • Pippin – Infused with black pigments to enhance depth and showcase carvings.

  • German White – A subtle white veil, perfect for taming bold acacia grain and creating a high-end feel.

  • Whitewashed – A full wash, popular with clients in the Mediterranean region for its clean, breezy aesthetic.

  • Distressed Look – A layered, vintage-inspired finish using flame treatment and multi-stage sanding for that worn-in charm.

Reclaimed Wood: Patina with Personality

We also work with reclaimed wood—a term that simply means repurposed timber from older buildings, furniture, or architectural elements. Its strength comes from age: it's well-seasoned, naturally water-resistant, and full of authentic character.

Because of its varied origins, reclaimed wood often features inconsistent textures, natural cracks, or color differences. This makes it especially suited to hand-painted furniture or sandblasted finishes with a used look, where imperfection becomes a defining feature. Each reclaimed piece carries its own story—rich with history, texture, and individuality.

Reclaimed Teak: Subtle Luxury

One of our most prized materials is reclaimed teak wood. Unlike newly harvested plantation teak from Indonesia, this wood has been aged, repurposed, and stabilized over time. It’s incredibly durable, water-repellent, and notably heavy.

Its surface is typically smooth, minimal, and elegantly understated—making it an ideal choice for refined, luxurious furniture that doesn’t need bold grain to make a statement. Reclaimed teak is more complex to process and often more costly, but the result is worth it:

A piece that feels calm, timeless, and quietly exclusive.
It also happens to be a personal favourite, both for its natural beauty and its eco-conscious story.

Photographs Don’t Tell the Whole Story

Lighting, setting, and even the time of day influence how a finish appears in photography. That’s why we work closely with experienced photographers in India—but even so, no item is shipped before we personally inspect it. We believe every finish must be seen, touched, and approved in person to meet our standards.

Craftsmanship Meets Curation

At Om Home & Garden, surface finishing is more than a technical step—it’s a craft. One that combines design intuition with material understanding, creating furniture that can be bold or soft, rustic or refined, but always authentic.

From hand-brushed whitewash to deep-toned teak finishes, each surface is chosen to bring out the best in the wood, the design—and the spaces you live in.
